Head of Operations and Administration

About the role

ACAVA is seeking a senior leader to steer its operations and administration through a strategic transition. Working closely with the Chief Executive, you will ensure the charity runs efficiently, finances are well‑managed, and the organisation’s culture remains collaborative and caring.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee a portfolio of 15 studio buildings and community spaces across London, Essex and Stoke‑on‑Trent, supporting the Studios Operations Manager and Property & Studio Communities Manager.
• Maintain oversight of IT and digital systems in partnership with a remote IT specialist.
• Act as the primary liaison with external accountants, ensuring strong internal controls, timely reporting, budget management, cash‑flow monitoring, payroll, and audit support.
• Manage all employer obligations, including contracts, HR records, policies, recruitment, onboarding and legal compliance.
• Ensure governance best practice: prepare high‑quality board papers, run board and sub‑committee meetings, and keep statutory filings and trustee records up to date.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in operations, finance and administration within a charity or non‑profit environment.
• Strong understanding of charity governance, statutory compliance and funding application processes.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple sites and coordinate cross‑functional teams.
