Head of Operations

About the role

The Head of Operations will lead all operational activities for a specialist engineering and technical services business, ensuring safe, efficient and profitable delivery of engineering, maintenance, compliance and service projects across the UK. This senior leadership position combines operational management, commercial insight, people leadership and change management.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and optimise operational delivery across maintenance, compliance, installation and construction functions.
• Manage budgeting, resource allocation and cost control for the operations department.
• Monitor and improve KPIs such as utilisation, productivity, response times, first‑time fix rates, project delivery and customer satisfaction.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards and internal policies.
• Lead, develop and motivate multi‑site operational teams, providing regular performance reports to senior leadership.
• Oversee workforce planning and resource deployment for field engineering and project teams.

Required profile

• Proven senior operational leadership experience in engineering services, utilities, infrastructure or related technical environments.
• Track record of managing nationwide field‑based engineering or technical service teams.
• Experience in petroleum, energy or downstream infrastructure sectors is advantageous.
• Strong expertise in resource allocation, budgeting and cost management.
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance and safety standards in manufacturing.
• Excellent leadership and team development capabilities.
• Degree or professional qualification in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Management or a related discipline.
