Head of Payroll & HR Operations

About the role

Beam Recruit is seeking an experienced payroll leader to head a large, complex payroll function while overseeing HR Operations, People Systems and Data. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will ensure accurate, compliant payroll delivery and drive continuous improvement across the wider HR services function.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a large, complex payroll function ensuring accurate, timely and compliant payroll delivery.
• Develop, coach and inspire a high‑performing payroll and HR operations team.
• Drive continuous improvement across payroll, systems and operational processes.
• Maintain integrity of people data, governance and statutory compliance.
• Create meaningful reporting and analytics to support business decision‑making.
• Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and support organisational growth, change projects and business integrations.
• Manage external payroll and technology partners to ensure exceptional service delivery.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading a complex payroll function within a large, multi‑site organisation.
• Strong understanding of payroll legislation, governance and compliance.
• Proven track record of delivering automation, systems implementation or continuous‑improvement projects.
• Ability to use data and reporting to influence decisions.
• Passion for operational excellence and developing people.

• Salary £65,000‑£70,000 per year
