Head of People

About the role

The Centre for Sustainable Energy is seeking a Head of People to lead and evolve its People function. You will shape the draft People Strategy, work across HR disciplines and act as a trusted advisor to the Senior Leadership Team, influencing organisational decisions and culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, deliver and continuously evolve the People Strategy to support organisational priorities.
• Partner with senior leaders as a strategic advisor, strengthening team effectiveness and addressing people‑related challenges.
• Lead the employee experience across the full lifecycle, improving policies, processes and systems.
• Build, develop and empower the People team, ensuring high‑quality, proactive service delivery.
• Support line managers in developing consistent people‑management practices.
• Oversee complex employee‑relations matters, employment law compliance, safeguarding and risk management.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading an HR or People function at a senior level.
• Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
• Excellent partnership skills, able to advise senior leadership and influence organisational change.
• Demonstrated ability to improve employee experience and drive continuous improvement.
• Solid understanding of employment law, ER, safeguarding and compliance.
