Head of Performance Improvement

About the role

The Head of Performance Improvement will lead the Trust’s performance reporting, improvement and management agenda. This senior position sits at the heart of operational decision‑making, working across executive, clinical and analytical teams to turn data into actionable improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Trust’s performance reporting and improvement function.
• Develop a comprehensive organisational performance framework aligned to national standards and the NHS Oversight Framework.
• Produce high‑quality Board and Executive reports, including the Integrated Performance Report.
• Support Care Groups and senior leaders in using information to drive operational improvement, productivity and quality of care.
• Introduce proactive reporting, analysis and early‑warning indicators.
• Collaborate with Business Intelligence, analytics and digital teams to create fit‑for‑purpose dashboards and performance metrics.
• Provide expert advice and challenge to Executive Directors, senior clinicians and operational leaders on performance and improvement issues.
• Support strategic planning, capacity and demand work, productivity improvement and benchmarking.
• Develop organisational capability in data use, information management and performance management approaches.
• Represent the Trust internally and externally on performance improvement matters.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in performance reporting, improvement or management within a complex healthcare environment.
• Ability to discuss strategic priorities with senior leaders while engaging credibly with analysts and BI teams.
• Strong understanding of NHS national standards, Oversight Framework and mental health service delivery.
• Excellent communication skills for influencing and presenting complex information to diverse audiences.
