Head of Preconstruction

About the role

The Head of Preconstruction will lead the pre‑construction function for a fast‑growing construction firm, shaping work‑winning strategy and overseeing the full tender process from enquiry to contract award.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage preconstruction and bid teams across multiple opportunities.
• Develop and implement work‑winning strategies to secure new business.
• Oversee tender planning, programming, methodology development, logistics planning and risk management.
• Review buildability and provide technical input during the bid process.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply‑chain partners.
• Drive continuous improvement of preconstruction processes and procedures.
• Support business‑development activities and identify growth opportunities.
• Provide leadership, mentoring and development for the wider preconstruction team.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in a senior preconstruction role.
• Strong main‑contractor background with a record of successful bids.
• Excellent commercial awareness and technical understanding of construction delivery.
• Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strategic thinker with a hands‑on approach and a track record of building high‑performing teams.
