Head of Pricing – Lead Actuarial & AI Modeling

About the role

Zego is seeking a Head of Pricing to lead the technical actuarial view of all pricing models, including traditional risk models and AI‑driven approaches, for personal and commercial motor insurance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the insurer’s technical oversight across actuarial risk, demand, market and optimisation models, ensuring sound methodology and trustworthy outputs.
• Independently validate modelling decisions, rating factor choices and assumptions for net rate models from project start to completion.
• Review, validate and challenge pricing and underwriting proposals in close collaboration with underwriting teams.
• Contribute to portfolio management by interpreting KPIs and modelling insights to guide performance.
• Support co‑insurance partners with evidence‑based validation of net rates and model quality.
• Mentor junior actuarial colleagues and help build governance, processes and tooling, including AI infrastructure.

Required profile

• Qualified actuary or equivalent with at least ten years of hands‑on modelling experience.
• Deep experience with classic actuarial risk modelling (GLMs in Emblem, Akur8 or similar) and practical Python usage.
• Proven exposure to modern machine‑learning methods such as GBM and confidence to assess them actuarially.
• Experience with UK motor pricing; experience in other lines, telematics, or newly launched portfolios is a plus.
• Ability to judge model reliability based on real‑world performance and to work in a small, high‑influence team.
