Head of Quality

About the role

We are seeking a Head of Quality to lead the Quality Management function for a defence/aerospace manufacturing firm in North East England. The role offers strategic influence, operational excellence and the chance to shape quality processes in a supportive, innovative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement quality objectives and improvement strategies aligned with company goals and AS9100 certification.
• Chair Management Reviews to ensure the effectiveness of the Quality Management System.
• Lead, mentor and motivate the Quality team, fostering a high‑performing culture.
• Manage regulatory compliance including ROHS, REACH, CMRT and EMRT, and communicate updates.
• Monitor Cost of Poor Quality, customer complaints and other quality indicators, driving projects to eliminate recurring issues.
• Implement process and product control methods such as PFMEA, Statistical Process Control, Production Part Approval Process, and layered audits.
• Develop ISO procedures to improve flexibility, compliance and standardisation.
• Conduct internal ISO and supplier quality audits and support customer audits to maintain AS9100 certification.
• Lead corrective and preventive action activities using 8D and Mistake Proofing techniques.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in quality management within aerospace or defence manufacturing.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive continuous improvement.
• Strong knowledge of AS9100 and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Experience delivering management reviews and handling customer audits.
