Head of Risk and Assurance

About the role

Marie Curie, the UK’s leading end‑of‑life charity, is seeking a Head of Risk and Assurance to shape and embed a robust risk and assurance framework across the organisation. Reporting to the Director of Governance Risk and Compliance, you will work closely with senior leaders to ensure regulatory compliance and strategic risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Director of Governance Risk and Compliance to strengthen assurance frameworks and support Board reporting.
• Guide risk owners in identifying, assessing, reporting, analysing and monitoring risks.
• Drive continuous improvement of risk management processes and embed a risk‑aware culture.
• Integrate risk activities with assurance, planning, performance and strategy development.
• Lead and develop a team of Senior Compliance Managers and a Senior Risk and Assurance Manager.

Required profile

• Significant experience in risk management within a complex organisation.
• Proven strategic thinking and decision‑making at senior level.
• Hands‑on experience embedding risk and compliance into operational processes.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, fostering continuous improvement.
• Excellent discretion, tact and diplomacy when handling sensitive issues.
