Head of Supply Chain

About the role

Portfolio Procurement is recruiting a Head of Supply Chain for a leading client in Bedfordshire. The role leads the end‑to‑end supply chain function, covering logistics, procurement and operations planning to support business objectives, cost optimisation and service excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the overall supply chain strategy aligned with business growth plans.
• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team across logistics, procurement and planning.
• Establish and manage KPIs to drive performance, cost efficiency and service excellence.
• Oversee inbound and outbound logistics, warehousing, transportation and distribution operations.
• Manage relationships with 3PLs, carriers and logistics partners to ensure reliability and cost optimisation.
• Ensure effective inventory control, stock accuracy and warehouse performance.
• Lead strategic sourcing, supplier selection, negotiation and contract management.
• Build a robust supplier base supporting quality, cost and sustainability.
• Implement procurement policies, governance and performance metrics.
• Oversee demand, supply and production planning processes to ensure accurate forecasting and optimal inventory levels.

Required profile

• Proven expertise in supply chain management within a manufacturing environment.
• Excellent knowledge of UK and international supply chain regulations and best practice.
• Degree or equivalent in a related field.
• CIPS qualification.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and deliver cost savings without compromising quality.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong leadership ability to manage and inspire teams.
• Experience developing and implementing supply chain strategies.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
