Head Veterinary Nurse

About the role

Join a modern, progressive veterinary practice as the Head Veterinary Nurse, leading a talented nursing team to deliver exceptional patient and client care. This full‑time, onsite position combines hands‑on nursing with inspiring leadership in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of Registered Veterinary Nurses, student nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants.
• Deliver high‑quality clinical care across theatre, wards, consultations and nurse clinics.
• Support recruitment, inductions, appraisals and ongoing team development.
• Drive clinical governance, compliance, health & safety and best‑practice standards.
• Collaborate with the Head Vet and leadership team to continuously improve practice operations.

Required profile

• RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with senior or leadership experience, or ready to step up.
• Strong coaching, mentoring and people‑management abilities.
• Excellent understanding of clinical governance and veterinary compliance.
• Organised, proactive and passionate about outstanding patient and client care.

• Ability to work within a 4‑day rota, including evenings, weekends and occasional overnight shifts.
