Headteacher – Secondary SEMH Alternative Provision

About the role

Teaching Personnel is seeking an outstanding, motivated and compassionate leader to head a secondary SEMH Alternative Provision in Liverpool. The role oversees up to 45 students, delivering a highly personalised educational experience for young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide inspirational strategic leadership and develop a clear vision to improve outcomes for SEMH students.
• Design and deliver a broad, balanced curriculum tailored to individual needs while monitoring teaching quality.
• Promote a strong safeguarding culture and ensure the wellbeing, safety and personal development of all students.
• Lead, manage and develop a multidisciplinary staff team, overseeing performance and professional development.
• Manage day‑to‑day operations, budgets and resources to ensure efficiency and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with parents, local authorities and external agencies, representing the provision within the wider community.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in education, preferably within SEMH or alternative provision.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and wellbeing policies.
• Ability to develop and implement strategic improvement plans.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Commitment to inclusive, high‑quality education.
