Health and Safety Advisor

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Health and Safety Advisor to join a leading construction business in Workington. You will support the development and implementation of the company's HSE management system, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, manage, implement and monitor the Safety, Health and Environmental Management system.
• Update HSE systems in line with legislative changes and industry best practice.
• Create content for HSE training and awareness programmes.
• Support the construction behavioural‑based safety programme.
• Conduct inspections and audits, recommending improvements to meet client and regulatory requirements.
• Investigate, record and analyse close calls, near‑misses and incidents.
• Maintain HSE data for trend analysis and develop appropriate response actions.
• Contribute health and safety input to tenders, pre‑qualifications and business strategy.

Required profile

• Experience in construction or civil engineering, preferably with a Tier 1 contractor.
• Good knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Motivated, proactive and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Working towards or holding a NEBOSH qualification and IOSH membership.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
• Experience with construction safety programmes and behavioural‑based safety initiatives.
