Health and Safety Officer – Warehouse

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our warehouse team in Darwen. You will be responsible for maintaining high health and safety standards across the site, ensuring a safe environment for staff, visitors and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of day‑to‑day health and safety matters across the warehouse.
• Carry out regular site inspections, safety checks and audits to identify hazards.
• Complete risk assessments and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near‑misses and follow up on corrective measures.
• Maintain accurate health and safety records, reports and documentation.
• Provide guidance and support to warehouse managers and team leaders.
• Ensure safe manual handling, storage operations, equipment use and loading/unloading activities.
• Deliver health and safety inductions, toolbox talks and awareness sessions.
• Monitor compliance with company policies and relevant legislation.
• Assist with emergency procedures, including fire safety.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety processes and reduce risks.
• Work with management and employees to build a proactive safety culture.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a health and safety role within a warehouse, logistics, manufacturing or distribution environment.
• Good understanding of warehouse operations and associated risks.
• Experience conducting risk assessments, audits and incident investigations.
• Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
• Confident communication with employees at all levels.
• Ability to provide practical advice and support to operational teams.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
