About the role
The Health, Safety & Lab Compliance Advisor will be the primary point of contact for health & safety and compliance across the North Wyke estate in Devon. Working on‑site in laboratories, farms, workshops and shared facilities, you will ensure that institute policies, statutory duties and licence conditions are effectively implemented and continuously improved.
Key responsibilities
- Provide professional health & safety and compliance advice to managers, supervisors, researchers and facilities teams.
- Develop, review and maintain risk assessments, COSHH assessments, safe systems of work and local procedures.
- Plan and carry out inspections, audits and compliance checks, identifying non‑compliance and supporting corrective actions.
- Lead or support incident, near‑miss and hazard investigations and contribute to root‑cause analysis.
- Maintain site‑wide risk registers, compliance records and action‑tracking systems.
- Collaborate with central Health, Safety, Biosafety and Quality functions to align practices.
Required profile
- Experience in health & safety or compliance within regulated environments such as laboratories or agricultural settings.
- Ability to interpret and apply statutory duties, licence conditions and internal policies.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear, proportionate and practical advice.
- Proven ability to work independently and support managers in discharging their health & safety responsibilities.
