Health, Safety & Sustainability Manager

About the role

The Health, Safety & Sustainability Manager is responsible for overseeing health, safety and sustainability across the Defence Academy UK. Working closely with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and other stakeholders, the role ensures compliance with MOD policy, legislation and promotes continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Station Safety Team to develop and maintain the Functional Safety Management Plan and related action plans.
• Provide advice to the Head of Establishment and line managers on health, safety and sustainability requirements, fostering a culture of awareness and ALARP risk management.
• Investigate accidents and dangerous occurrences, produce reports, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct audits, monitor compliance, and recommend improvements or new prevention measures.
• Manage accident reporting programmes, prepare HSE forms and handle RIDDOR reporting as directed.
• Deliver training, presentations and promote initiatives on health, safety and sustainability.
• Engage with strategic partners such as SERCO, ESS, CU and chair Safety and Sustainability Working Groups.

Required profile

• Experience in line management and mentoring, with at least one direct report.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and investigative skills for incident analysis.
