Health Visitor

About the role

The Health Visitor will join the NHS Borders Health Visiting Team, providing expert care and early‑intervention support to children aged 0‑5 and their families in the Tweeddale & Eildon area. Working within the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) national practice model, the role bridges health, education and social care to promote wellbeing from the earliest stages of life.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver universal and targeted health visiting services to families with young children.
• Assess child and family needs using the National Practice Model.
• Promote health‑promotion and public‑health initiatives within the community.
• Provide safeguarding advice and act as a lead professional where appropriate.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including midwifery, CAMHS, AHPs and social care.
• Support school readiness and parenting interventions.
• Maintain accurate records and uphold evidence‑based practice standards.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse or Midwife with a Scottish Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) Health Visitor qualification.
• Sound knowledge of the Health Visiting Pathway in Scotland.
• Familiarity with GIRFEC and the National Practice Model.
• Experience in early years, family support and community public health.
• Strong interpersonal, organisational and assessment abilities.
• Capability to manage complex caseloads and work independently within a team.
