HGV Technician

About the role

We are seeking an HGV Technician to maintain and repair waste trucks for a municipal client in Trafford. The role involves using advanced diagnostic equipment, performing overhauls and ensuring vehicles meet safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose faults using advanced diagnostic tools and execute effective repairs.
• Dismantle, overhaul and re‑assemble vehicle components to restore optimal functionality.
• Maintain a fleet of waste trucks and related plant equipment.
• Complete job cards, inspections and other documentation on tablets or PDAs.
• Conduct road tests and assist with roadside breakdowns.
• Perform ad‑hoc driving duties such as taking vehicles for MOT tests.

Required profile

• City & Guilds, IRTEC or NVQ qualification in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Experience working with municipal or waste‑management vehicles.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Good communication skills.

Required skills

• Heavy‑vehicle diagnostic equipment operation.
• Vehicle dismantling and overhaul techniques.
• Use of tablets/PDA for job documentation.
• Road testing and breakdown assistance.
