HGV Technician – Waste Truck Maintenance

About the role

We are seeking an experienced HGV Technician to maintain and repair waste collection trucks for a leading municipal client. The role is based in Trafford, Manchester and offers a full‑time, on‑site position within a supportive team.

Key responsibilities

• Use advanced diagnostic tools to identify faults and carry out effective repairs.
• Dismantle, overhaul and re‑assemble vehicle components to restore optimal functionality.
• Maintain vehicles and plant equipment to ensure reliable operation.
• Complete job cards, inspections and other documentation using tablets and PDAs.
• Conduct road tests and assist with roadside breakdowns.
• Perform ad‑hoc driving tasks such as taking vehicles for MOT tests.

Required profile

• City & Guilds, IRTEC or NVQ certification in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Experience working with municipal or similar heavy‑vehicle fleets.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Good communication skills.
