HGV / Trailer Fitter – Full‑time, Wigan

About the role

We are looking for a skilled HGV / Trailer Fitter to join our engineering and transport support team in Wigan. Working from a fully equipped workshop, you will maintain a diverse fleet of heavy goods vehicles, trailers and specialist transport equipment, ensuring safety, reliability and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs, trailers and associated plant machinery.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Carry out trailer inspections, MOT preparations and safety checks to DVSA standards.
• Repair braking systems, suspension, axle assemblies, lighting and running gear.
• Maintain ancillary equipment such as generators, lighting towers and small plant.
• Complete accurate maintenance records and inspection documentation.
• Support breakdown response and emergency repairs as required.
• Assist with fleet compliance, vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance schedules.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an HGV Technician, Trailer Fitter, Fleet Engineer or similar role.
• Relevant engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent time‑served experience.
• Strong understanding of HGV and trailer maintenance practices.
• Full UK driving licence (HGV licence advantageous but not essential).
• Positive attitude, able to work independently and as part of a team.
