HGV Workshop Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced HGV Workshop Manager to lead the maintenance of a mixed fleet of specialist tankers, HGVs and company vans for a well‑established drainage and wastewater services provider in the South West.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and carry out maintenance and repair of specialist vehicles, including tankers, HGVs and vans.
• Plan and execute servicing, MOT preparation, inspections and defect rectification to ensure full DVSA compliance.
• Lead reactive repairs to minimise downtime and maintain operational availability.
• Directly supervise one HGV fitter, ensuring consistent workshop standards.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts usage and compliance documentation.
• Coordinate parts ordering, stock control, tooling and workshop housekeeping.
• Liaise daily with Transport and Operations Managers to prioritise workload.
• Organise rotating shift patterns to guarantee full availability during operating hours.
• Respond to breakdowns and assist with LOLER and PAT inspections as required.

Required profile

• Recognised qualification in HGV maintenance (NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds or equivalent) or demonstrable experience.
• IRTEC accreditation – mandatory for tanker maintenance.
• Proven experience working on tanker vehicles with jetting, vacuum or similar specialist equipment.
