High Performance Computer Scientist / HPC Developer

About the role

We are seeking an exceptional HPC Engineer to design, optimise and operate cutting‑edge high‑performance computing environments. You will work on large‑scale, performance‑critical workloads, collaborating with researchers and engineers to push the limits of computational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain Linux‑based high‑performance compute clusters.
• Profile, benchmark and optimise applications to improve throughput.
• Develop automation tools for deployment, monitoring and management of complex systems.
• Handle distributed workloads using MPI, OpenMP, CUDA and related technologies.
• Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, performance and scalability issues.
• Optimise resource utilisation across compute, storage and networking.
• Implement solutions for reliability, scalability and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on computationally intensive projects.

Required profile

• First‑class degree or exceptional academic record from a leading UK university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline.
• Strong analytical ability and passion for low‑level systems and large‑scale infrastructure.
• Research experience with computational workloads is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Programming: Python, C++, C, Rust, Fortran.
• Deep knowledge of Linux systems and computer architecture.
• Experience with parallel programming models: MPI, OpenMP, CUDA.
• Familiarity with job‑scheduling systems such as Slurm, PBS or LSF.
• Proficiency in performance profiling, benchmarking and optimisation techniques.
