Higher Level Pharmacy Support Worker – Clinical Trials

About the role

The Higher Level Pharmacy Support Worker will join the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Service at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. You will play a key part in the safe handling and management of investigational medicinal products (IMPs) for clinical research studies, supporting a high‑performing multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Support ordering, receipt, storage and delivery of IMPs.
• Assist in dispensing, drug accountability and destruction of IMPs in line with SOPs and regulatory standards.
• Maintain accurate trial documentation, including prescriptions, accountability logs and sponsor returns.
• Process returned trial materials and prepare documentation for sponsor reporting.
• Monitor storage conditions, record deviations and report promptly.
• Communicate with research teams, sponsors and the pharmacy clinical trials team to resolve queries.
• Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Medicines for Human Use Clinical Trials Regulations and NHS Lothian policies.

Required profile

• Interest in clinical research and patient care.
• Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and occasional travel to other NHS Lothian sites.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a supportive team.
