Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Behaviour Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with experience in Alternative Provision to join a Good‑rated school in the Chorley area. The role focuses on supporting Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons for small groups of up to eight pupils.
• Maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment and manage challenging behaviour.
• Work closely with teachers and support staff to implement Individual Education Plans and EHCPs.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback to the wider teaching team.
• Contribute to the development of behaviour‑management strategies and wellbeing initiatives.

Required profile

• HLTA status or a relevant degree in education.
• Proven experience in an Alternative Provision or SEMH setting.
• Strong classroom management skills and ability to handle challenging behaviour.
• Experience supporting pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Commitment to student development and alignment with school values.
