Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Alternative Provision

About the role

We are looking for a passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our specialist Alternative Provision school in the Standish area. This full‑time position offers a dynamic, hands‑on environment where no two days are the same, supporting both classroom teachers and delivering targeted interventions for KS3 and KS4 students.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver tailored learning activities for students across KS3 and KS4, addressing emotional, social and academic needs.
• Cover classes in the teacher’s absence, maintaining a structured and relational classroom atmosphere.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with young people to help them overcome barriers to learning.
• Collaborate with the wider staff team to implement positive behaviour strategies.

Required profile

• HLTA status (or equivalent experience/qualifications).
• Proven experience working with children or young people, preferably in alternative provision, specialist placement or SEMH settings.
• Commitment to continuous professional development, including mandatory Wednesday evening staff training.
