Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

About the role

The school in Everton, Liverpool is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support classroom learning on a full‑time, temporary basis. You will work closely with teachers and the SENCo to deliver inclusive education for all pupils, including those with SEND.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality learning activities to individuals, groups and whole classes when the teacher is absent.
• Provide targeted support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
• Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum and participating fully in classroom activities.
• Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCo to implement targets from EHCPs, IEPs and support plans.
• Plan, prepare and adapt learning resources to meet individual needs.
• Assess, record and report on pupils’ progress and attainment.
• Support communication, language development and social interaction.
• Promote emotional wellbeing, self‑regulation and positive behaviour.
• Encourage independence, confidence and engagement in learning.

Required profile

• HLTA qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
• Previous experience leading learning activities within a classroom environment.
• Experience working with children with SEND in mainstream or specialist settings.
