Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Primary School, Wigan

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming primary school in Wigan. The role starts in September and is full‑time, offering the chance to lead classrooms and maintain high learning standards when teachers are absent or on planning time.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver pre‑planned lessons for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
• Cover classes independently to support teachers’ planning time or short‑term absences.
• Manage classroom behaviour to ensure a safe, productive environment.
• Adapt quickly to different year groups as required.
• Collaborate with teaching assistants and class teachers, providing feedback on pupil progress.

Required profile

• Confident classroom presence with excellent behaviour management.
• Flexibility, resilience and a positive “can‑do” attitude.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with pupils and staff.
• Commitment to supporting children of all learning abilities.
