Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Wembley

About the role

The Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) position is based in a large, supportive primary school in Wembley. It is designed for individuals who wish to progress into teaching and ultimately achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). You will work closely with senior leaders and receive dedicated mentoring to develop the skills required for a teaching career.

Key responsibilities

• Lead whole‑class lessons when the class teacher is absent.
• Deliver targeted small‑group and intervention teaching.
• Support planning, preparation and assessment activities.
• Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement lesson plans.
• Participate in professional development programmes aimed at aspiring teachers.

Required profile

• Current HLTA or recent graduate Teaching Assistant looking to advance.
• Confidence in leading small groups and whole classes.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Clear ambition to complete teacher training and obtain QTS.

Required skills

• Effective classroom management.
• Ability to deliver differentiated instruction.
• Proficiency in using standard educational resources and assessment tools.
