Higher Level Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support young people with complex learning needs in a specialist post‑16 SEND college in Aston. The role starts in September 2026 on a long‑term contract, working Monday‑Thursday 8:45 am‑3:00 pm.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality classroom support and lead learning activities for students with complex SEND.
• Support students using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and personalised communication strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff to implement individual learning programmes.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to other Teaching Assistants.
• Promote independence, confidence and preparation for adulthood while maintaining a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching & Learning (or equivalent).
• Extensive experience supporting children or young people with complex SEND needs.
• Significant experience in a specialist SEND school or college.
• Proactive, flexible and compassionate approach.
• Enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Available to start in September 2026 and commit to a long‑term role.

Required skills

• Knowledge and practical experience of AAC systems.
• Experience supervising, mentoring or supporting other staff members.
