Higher Level Teaching Assistant – KS2 Maths & English (Barking)

About the role

We are seeking a confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support Year 5 and Year 6 pupils in a welcoming primary school in Barking. The focus of the role is targeted intervention in Maths and English to close learning gaps and build confidence ahead of key assessments.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver small‑group and one‑to‑one intervention sessions in Maths and English for KS2.
• Collaborate with class teachers to plan and deliver targeted support.
• Run booster sessions and help pupils prepare for assessments.
• Provide occasional class cover when required.
• Monitor pupil progress and report outcomes to teachers.

Required profile

• Experience working in a primary school.
• Strong knowledge of Year 5 and Year 6 Maths and English curriculum.
• Proven experience delivering interventions or booster sessions.
• Good behaviour management skills.
• Ability to work with small groups and individual pupils.
• Previous HLTA experience or confidence covering pre‑planned lessons.

• Knowledge of Upper KS2 English curriculum.
• Behaviour management techniques.
• Ability to plan and deliver targeted intervention sessions.
