Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Basildon)

About the role

This permanent position is for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) in a friendly primary school in Basildon, Essex. Starting in September, the role supports pupils from Reception to Year 6, delivering classroom cover, targeted interventions and collaborative support for teachers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective classroom cover across Reception to Year 6 using established lesson plans.
• Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group interventions to raise attainment and confidence.
• Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging learning experiences.
• Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs of pupils.
• Foster positive behaviour and create a nurturing learning environment.
• Monitor pupil progress and share feedback with colleagues.
• Contribute actively to the wider life of the school.

Required profile

• Holds HLTA status or has substantial experience as a teaching assistant in a primary school.
• Experience leading learning within a primary setting.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
• Adaptable, proactive and confident working across different year groups.
• Genuine commitment to helping children reach their full potential.
