Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Full‑time)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming primary school in Barking on a full‑time basis from September 2026. The role involves delivering pre‑planned lessons during teachers' PPA time, providing whole‑class teaching and targeted interventions across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver pre‑planned lessons during teachers' PPA time.
• Lead whole‑class teaching across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
• Provide targeted intervention sessions in English and Maths.
• Support pupils through small‑group and one‑to‑one interventions.
• Collaborate with teachers to ensure continuity of learning.
• Assist with planning, assessment and classroom organisation as needed.
• Promote positive behaviour and support pupils' social and emotional development.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.

Required profile

• HLTA qualification or substantial experience as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant.
• Minimum of one year experience in a primary school setting.
• Strong understanding of the primary curriculum.
• Confidence delivering lessons to whole classes across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
• Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
• Flexible, proactive and positive approach to supporting children’s learning.
• Genuine passion for primary education.
