Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools (Wakefield & South Leeds)

About the role

We are seeking experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to join primary school teams across Wakefield and South Leeds. You will support teachers by delivering lessons, providing targeted interventions, and helping maintain a positive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead whole‑class learning for EYFS, KS1 or KS2 when the teacher is absent.
• Deliver pre‑planned lessons and provide focused support in literacy, numeracy and SEND.
• Manage behaviour, encourage engagement and uphold positive routines.
• Collaborate closely with class teachers and senior leaders to raise pupil attainment.
• Bring energy, initiative and creativity to daily classroom activities.

Required profile

• HLTA qualification or substantial teaching assistant experience with confidence to lead whole‑class sessions.
• Strong communication and behaviour‑management abilities.
• Flexibility to work across different year groups and school settings.
• Genuine passion for supporting children’s progress.
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) and legal right to work in the UK.

Required skills

• HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
