Higher Level Teaching Assistant – SEMH Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEMH primary school in Wembley, London. This full‑time position starts in September 2026 and offers a supportive environment for professionals passionate about helping pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver targeted interventions to individual pupils and small groups.
• Cover classes across the school when teaching staff are absent.
• Support pupils academically, emotionally, socially and behaviourally.
• Implement behaviour‑support strategies and promote positive outcomes.
• Work under teachers’ direction to deliver planned learning activities.
• Monitor, record and report on pupil progress.
• Help pupils develop self‑regulation, resilience and independence.
• Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Recognised HLTA qualification.
• Proven experience at HLTA level supporting SEMH, ASD or complex behavioural needs.
• Experience in specialist settings such as SEMH schools, PRUs or alternative provision.
• Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with vulnerable pupils.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Calm, resilient and proactive approach.
