Highway Asset Manager

About the role

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Highway Asset Manager to lead the development and delivery of its highway maintenance programmes. You will champion asset, planning and pavement management principles across the Highways and Transport teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor revenue and capital highway maintenance programmes.
• Maintain and evolve Asset Management Policies and Strategies, ensuring timely data collection and interpretation.
• Oversee data management for the Highways and Transport Division, including the National Street Gazetteer.
• Lead work on Countryside Policy, the County Council's Definitive Map and Statement, and protected landscapes.
• Manage a team of 10 staff delivering integrated Highways Asset Management, collaborating closely with design and delivery teams.

Required profile

• Proven experience in asset management within a highway or transport environment.
• Strong understanding of pavement management and performance monitoring.
• Ability to lead and develop a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent analytical skills with a focus on data‑driven decision making.
