Highway Engineering Team Lead

About the role

Our client, a multi‑disciplinary transport consultancy based in Fareham, Hampshire, is seeking a Highway Engineering Team Lead. The role is full‑time, Monday‑to‑Friday with flexible core hours, and offers a competitive salary and 32 days holiday. You will oversee a team of highway engineers, manage complex schemes and support business development across public and private sector projects.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day team resources and ensure monthly invoicing targets are met.
• Prepare fee letters, develop budgets and monitor live project finances.
• Deliver highway design work efficiently and maintain quality of drawing outputs.
• Collaborate with transport planning teams, providing highway engineering advice.
• Produce team updates for Board reports and identify process improvements.
• Line‑manage, mentor and develop highway engineers.
• Lead business development activities, attend client meetings and pursue new opportunities.

Required profile

• Membership of a relevant institution (e.g., ICE or CIHT); IEng or CEng preferred.
• Degree or HND in Civil Engineering.
• Significant experience in a similar consultancy role, including team leadership.
