Hire Controller - Tool and Plant Hire

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Hire Controller to lead the tool and plant hire business at a well‑known builders merchant in Crawley. The role combines sales drive with operational management of the hire department, offering a chance to shape a high‑potential branch.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute sales strategies to grow tool and plant hire revenue.
• Manage day‑to‑day hire operations, ensuring excellent customer service.
• Maintain stock levels, pricing, and profitability of hire assets.
• Build and nurture relationships with contractors, builders and other customers.
• Monitor performance metrics and produce regular reports for senior management.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Hire Controller or in tool/plant hire sales.
• Strong commercial mindset with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
• Good organisational and people‑management abilities.
• Customer‑focused attitude and ability to work autonomously.
