Hire Controller – Tool and Plant Hire

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Hire Controller to lead the tool and plant hire business at our client’s Crawley branch. The role combines sales drive with operational management to grow the hire portfolio within a leading builders merchant.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute sales strategies to increase tool and plant hire revenue.
• Manage day‑to‑day hire operations, including stock control and customer service.
• Build and maintain relationships with contractors, builders and other customers.
• Monitor performance against targets and report results to senior management.
• Identify opportunities for new product lines and service improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in hire control, tool hire or plant hire within the construction sector.
• Strong commercial mindset with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
• Excellent customer‑service orientation and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of the branch’s hire business.

Required skills

• Knowledge of construction tools and plant equipment.
• Understanding of hire pricing, contracts and inventory management.
