Homelessness Prevention & Solutions Officer – North London

About the role

This contract position supports a local authority in North London by providing specialist advice and assistance to individuals at risk of homelessness. You will work within a rota system, handling enquiries, interviews and case management to help clients secure and sustain tenancies.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver housing advice via rota duties, interviews, duty line and electronic enquiries.
• Assess clients' housing and financial needs, create and update Personal Housing Plans (PHPs).
• Conduct statutory assessments under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and meet associated deadlines.
• Guide clients through the rental market, benefits and tenancy options, assisting with applications.
• Support resettlement by sign‑posting to relevant agencies and monitoring tenancy sustainability.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of UK housing legislation, homelessness policy and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Understanding of housing benefit rules, supply/demand dynamics and eviction processes.
• Experience advising vulnerable clients, conducting interviews and handling sensitive information.
• Proven ability to meet performance targets and interpret complex legislation quickly.
