Hospital At Night Doctor – Night Shift

About the role

The Hospital At Night (H@N) Doctor provides experienced overnight clinical coverage for the Sutton site of the Royal Marsden Cancer Centre. Working from 8 pm to 9 am, the doctor manages all inpatient care and new admissions across oncology, haematology and surgical specialties.

Key responsibilities

• Provide continuous medical care for all ward in‑patients during the night shift.
• Assess and admit new patients under oncology, haematology and surgical specialties.
• Collaborate with an on‑site senior nurse, outreach nurse and the H@N team.
• Coordinate with on‑call registrars/SAS doctors in critical care and specialty registrars (oncology, urology/gynaecology, head & neck, general surgery) as needed.
• Ensure safe handover to daytime teams at the end of the shift.

Required profile

• Fully qualified medical doctor with experience in general medicine, general surgery or anaesthesia.
• Completed fellowship or advanced training in a relevant specialty (e.g., surgical, dermatology, gastroenterology, palliative care, oncology, digital health).
• Ability to work autonomously overnight and make rapid clinical decisions.
