Housing Applications and Assessment Service Manager

About the role

Southwark Council is seeking an experienced leader to manage its high‑volume Housing Applications and Assessment Service. You will oversee housing register applications, homelessness assessments, reviews and tenancy‑related matters, ensuring decisions are fair, legally robust and focused on the best outcomes for residents.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary team delivering housing applications, assessments, reviews and tenancy decisions.
• Ensure statutory decisions are evidence‑based, legally compliant and defensible, reducing legal risk.
• Shape policy, drive innovation and use data insights to improve service quality and resident experience.
• Build effective partnerships with internal services, registered providers and external stakeholders.
• Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in a complex, high‑volume housing or public sector environment.
• Strong understanding of housing legislation, homelessness assessment processes and tenancy management.
• Ability to influence strategic direction and make data‑driven decisions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
