Housing Assessment Manager

About the role

Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Housing Assessment Manager to lead a dedicated assessment service that delivers high‑quality homelessness decisions. You will ensure timely, fair and evidence‑based outcomes while supporting the council’s wider commitment to preventing homelessness and improving housing outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, support and develop a team of housing assessment professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Oversee caseload management, workflow and performance to ensure applications and statutory reviews are progressed within required timescales.
• Monitor service performance, identify challenges, address delays or backlogs and drive improvements.
• Maintain statutory compliance and ensure decisions are transparent, accountable and legally robust.
• Develop professional practice, quality assurance processes and drive service improvement initiatives.
• Provide effective support to residents during challenging circumstances.

Required profile

• Proven experience in housing assessment or homelessness services, preferably within a local authority.
• Demonstrated leadership ability to inspire and develop teams.
• Strong understanding of statutory homelessness legislation and best practice.
• Commitment to improving outcomes for residents and communities.
• Ability to manage demand, performance metrics and continuous improvement programmes.
