Housing Enforcement Officer

About the role

The Housing Enforcement Officer will join the Housing Compliance and Enforcement Team to protect tenants and improve housing standards across Manchester. You will investigate reports of disrepair, health and safety breaches, and illegal tenancy practices in the private rented sector.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and enforce action on housing disrepair and health‑and‑safety issues in rented properties.
• Administer and enforce Mandatory HMO licensing and Selective licensing schemes.
• Lead proactive projects targeting rogue landlords and unsafe housing.
• Investigate tenancy relation matters, including illegal evictions.
• Collaborate with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service on housing safety initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified in the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) or willingness to work towards it.
• Degree or HNC in Environmental Health, or equivalent knowledge of housing legislation.
• Two references covering at least three years of employment history.
• Eligibility to work in the UK and consent to BPSS security checks.
• If using a personal vehicle, a full, valid driving licence and appropriate documentation.
