Housing Officer – Contract (South West London)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Housing Officer to join our Local Authority Housing team on a contract basis in Kingston upon Thames, covering the South West London area. The role involves direct resident interaction, tenancy administration and enforcement of housing standards.

Key responsibilities

• Visit new tenants to explain tenancy conditions and identify vulnerabilities.
• Maintain regular communication through estate inspections, customer surgeries and home visits.
• Manage tenancy matters such as succession, assignment, discretionary re‑housing and transfers.
• Address anti‑social behaviour, illegal occupation and tenancy breaches.
• Conduct estate inspections, tenancy audits and recommend improvements.
• Support vulnerable tenants and make referrals to external services.
• Prepare and serve legal notices, draft witness statements and represent the council in court proceedings.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of experience in housing management within a local authority or social housing setting.
• Proven ability to handle complex tenancy issues and enforce housing regulations.
• Strong knowledge of housing legislation, anti‑social behaviour laws and regulator consumer standards.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
