Housing Register Officer

About the role

We are seeking an organised, customer‑focused Housing Register Officer to join the Housing Services team in Hammersmith. The role involves delivering high‑quality public services by managing the council’s housing register and helping people access social housing.

Key responsibilities

• Assess new and existing housing applications in line with housing legislation and the Council’s Allocations Policy.
• Verify applicant information such as identity, residency, income, medical details and current housing circumstances.
• Determine eligibility, qualification and priority banding based on evidence and policy.
• Review changes in applicants’ circumstances and reassess where required.
• Communicate decisions clearly, providing advice on housing options and review rights.
• Maintain accurate records using the housing management system.
• Respond to enquiries from applicants, elected members, partner agencies and other stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Housing Options, Lettings, Registered Providers, Adult and Children’s Services and other internal teams.
• Support choice‑based lettings and nomination processes as needed.
• Ensure compliance with data protection legislation, safeguarding responsibilities and customer service standards.

Required profile

• Experience in housing, customer service, local government or a similar public service environment.
• Knowledge of social housing allocations and housing register processes, or a willingness to develop expertise.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex policies sensitively.
• Strong organisational abilities and capacity to manage a busy workload while meeting deadlines.
• Good analytical and decision‑making skills with high attention to detail.
• Experience interpreting policies and applying them consistently and fairly.
