HR and Development Adviser – Maternity Cover

About the role

We are looking for an experienced HR & Development Adviser to provide a full‑time, fixed‑term maternity cover until 31 December 2027. The role starts between September and October 2026 and will be based in Kings Hill, supporting managers and employees across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide professional HR advice on disciplinary, grievance, capability and attendance matters.
• Lead end‑to‑end recruitment and selection, ensuring best practice and a positive candidate experience.
• Advise on terms and conditions, flexible working, family leave and HR policies.
• Develop, implement and review HR policies, procedures and projects aligned with organisational objectives.
• Produce management information, workforce reports, sickness data and statutory returns.
• Build productive relationships with managers, employees and trade union representatives.
• Line‑manage the HR Assistant and oversee HR, recruitment and pensions administration.
• Support maintenance and development of HR and recruitment systems and the e‑learning platform.
• Assist the Head of HR & Development with project work linked to local government reorganisation.

Required profile

• CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent) with solid HR experience.
• Proven ability to give professional HR advice across a broad range of disciplines.
• Confidence handling sensitive and complex employee‑relations issues.
• Strong relationship‑building and influencing skills at all management levels.
