HR Consultant – Hybrid (Bristol)

About the role

We are seeking an HR Consultant to join our team in Bristol on a hybrid basis. The role will involve providing high‑quality HR advice, shaping people policies and supporting projects that influence culture and working practices. You will work mainly remotely with occasional office attendance (approximately once a week) and a few in‑person team meetings each year.

Key responsibilities

• Review and develop HR policies to ensure clarity, fairness and compliance with legislation.
• Provide guidance on complex HR casework including conduct, performance and attendance issues.
• Support organisational projects that require HR or policy expertise, particularly those shaping workforce culture.
• Act as a primary HR liaison for managers and employees to promote consistent and fair people practices.
• Contribute to learning resources and training that enhance people‑management capability.
• Lead job evaluation activities, advising managers on role design, grading outcomes and maintaining evaluation frameworks.
• Use role and workforce data to inform pay, grading and organisational decisions.

Required profile

• Significant experience working within local authority environments.
• Proven knowledge of the NHS Joint Committee (NJC) Grade and Leveling (GLP) framework.
• Ability to balance practical problem‑solving with sound judgement and clear communication.
• Collaborative approach with the capacity to work closely with managers, HR colleagues and employee networks.
• Commitment to ensuring employment practices are fair, accessible and aligned with legislation.
• Experience conducting Equality Impact Assessments and using workforce insights to drive improvements.
