HR Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead a professional, compliant and people‑focused HR function for a well‑established education organisation. The role combines strategic HR leadership with hands‑on delivery across the full employee lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Manage recruitment, onboarding, performance management and off‑boarding for all staff.
• Provide expert advice on employee relations, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence cases.
• Lead, develop and support the HR and payroll team to ensure a high‑quality internal service.
• Maintain HR policies and procedures in line with current employment legislation and safeguarding requirements.
• Promote employee wellbeing, engagement, retention and career development initiatives.
• Coach managers to build leadership capability through training and practical HR guidance.
• Support organisational change programmes, restructures and workforce planning.
• Drive equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives and produce related reporting.
• Oversee HR systems, payroll integration and data accuracy, driving continuous improvement.
• Prepare management information and reports for senior leaders and Governors.
• Ensure compliance with GDPR and other statutory obligations, supporting audit and regulatory inspections.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a generalist HR management role.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law and handling complex employee relations matters.
• Effective people‑leadership with excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder‑management skills.
• CIPD Level 5 qualification is an advantage.
• Experience in the education sector and line‑management experience are desirable but not essential.
