HR Officer – Temporary (Public Services)

About the role

Our client, Dorset Police, are looking for a proactive HR Officer to join their HR Operations team in Plymouth on a temporary basis. You will act as a professional advisor, supporting managers across a range of people‑management issues and ensuring HR services align with organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, expert advice to managers on employment matters, policy compliance and legislation.
• Coach and support managers through performance management, misconduct investigations and change initiatives.
• Manage a varied caseload of HR issues, delivering practical and creative solutions.
• Facilitate change processes linked to partnership projects and organisational restructuring.
• Contribute to the simplification and improvement of HR policies and procedures.

Required profile

• CIPD Level 5 Diploma in HR Management (or equivalent practical experience).
• Strong knowledge of employment law and experience delivering specialised HR guidance.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems and remain resilient under pressure.
• High level of computer literacy for managing HR systems.
