HSE Manager – Lead Safety & Environmental Strategy

About the role

We are seeking a confident and credible Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) leader to own safety, wellbeing and environmental performance at our complex manufacturing site in Lifton. Reporting to the Site Leadership Team, you will have autonomy to shape HSE strategy, drive cultural change and make a lasting impact on the business.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the site HSE strategy aligned with Group, sector and regulatory requirements.
• Lead cultural and behavioural initiatives to embed a proactive safety culture.
• Ensure full compliance with UK health, safety and environmental legislation and site permits.
• Maintain and continuously improve Safety & Environmental Management Systems.
• Act as site Duty Holder for Group‑identified specialisms and oversee site security arrangements.
• Provide expert HSE advice to leaders, employees and contractors.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis and preventative action planning.
• Monitor, analyse and report HSE performance, trends and KPIs to site leadership.
• Manage preparation for external audits and regulatory inspections, acting as the main contact for bodies such as the Environment Agency.
• Support safe design, operational change and capital projects with strong HSE input.
• Lead, develop and coach the site SHE team.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior HSE role within a regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Ability to influence behaviour and build relationships across all site levels.
• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
• Strategic thinker with a passion for continuous improvement.
